When you think about planning the perfect ballerina party, the first thing that probably comes to mind is little pink tutus. So today you are in for a big treat! I am sharing a ballerina toppers tutorial. And the big news is that these are the same toppers that I sell on Etsy. So you are welcome to just buy these handmade toppers or you can make them yourself. The choice is yours. So lets get started!
First gather the following supplies:
- sewing needle
- roll crepe paper steamer (pink or a color of your choice)
- thread (choose a color close to the color of your streamer if possible)
- scissors
- hot glue gun
- wooden sandwich picks
- printable ballerina topper template
- Silhouette Cameo or Cricut (optional)
Step 1. Print out the ballerina topper template. This template can be found at Sweet Art Paperie. Then cut out the ballerinas using scissors, Silhouette Cameo, CriCut, or cutting machine of your choice (I use the Silhouette Cameo).
Step 2. Glue each ballerina to a wooden sandwich pick, leaving about 2 in of the pick exposed below the ballerina.
Step 3. Cut crepe paper streams into strips approximately 12 in. long (One strip for each topper). Then fold each strip in half horizontally or hot dog, not hamburger for my fellow elementary school teachers tat ever used that term for the kiddos 🙂
Step 4. Thread your needle and make a small knot at the end of the thread. Then sew along the folded line on an over under fashion. Once the needle goes through the end of the crepe paper strip, gently scrunch the paper down to the knot.
Step 6. Then wrap the scrunched crepe paper strip around the ballerina waist and glue both paper ends together and to the back of the ballerina.
Step 7. Use your fingers to slightly pull apart the two layers of the tutu. Optional: For a slight fuller looking tutu, I trim around the edges of the tutu.
Step 8. Place your beautiful creation on cupcakes and pat yourself on the back. Better yet, why not plie and do a little twirl!
