Goals are great, but I think there is one problem that many of us have (myself included 🙋🏽♀️). I believe many of us make the mistake of setting goals mentally. How many times have you told yourself, “I’m going to ____ (fill in the blank) for real this time…”? We have good intentions, but life gets in the way sometimes. Visual reminders and methods to organize your thoughts can help turn our good intentions into accomplishments. This is why I love mind mapping!
What is mind mapping?
Mind Mapping is a way to get your ideas out of your head in order to visually organize your thoughts. In a Mind Map, the main idea/goal is always at the center and extended branches represent the ideas and tasks that support that main idea/goal. Think of a Mind Map like a road map. The main idea/goal is like the key landmark at the center of the map and the supporting ideas/tasks are like the roads/routes leading to that landmark or goal.
Why mind mapping?
Mind Mapping encourages creativity, mindful thinking, and planning. Personal Mind Mapping turns a to-do list into a visually structured “big picture” plan. You can use mind mapping to set goals, brainstorm ideas, do monthly planning, etc. If you choose to do a personal Mind Map, here are some ideas to include:
- Family
- Marriage
- Love/Romance
- Health/Fitness
- Finance
- Growth
- Spiritual
- Education
- Business
- Work
- Self Care/ Me Time
- Relaxation/Meditation
- Hobby
- Craft
- Kids
- Legacy/Future Plan
- Nutrition/Food
Benefits of Mind Mapping?
Mind Mapping has allowed me to really boost my productivity by organizing my thoughts and giving me a visual reminder. It encourages me to look at each area of my life and consider little things I could do to reach my goal. This is an example of my January Mind Map:
So as you create your Mind Map be creative be intentions, and most importantly have FUN!!

January 12, 2021I use mind mapping every year as I plan my goals…in fact, my planner has a whole mind-map section for 1-, 3, 10- and lifetime goals! It is so cool. Your January mind-map is super cute…I think I will take a cue from this to do some more mind-mapping, at least every quarter if not every month! Thanks so much!

January 12, 2021Such a cute post. Mind mapping is very similar to doing a vision board but just a little quicker. I do this often but never put a name to it!
Sasha
January 12, 2021Thanks. It is very much like a vision board. I do both.
